Quality hybrid lends sheen to turmeric |

Spot turmeric prices in
Erode markets increased on Thursday due to arrival of fine variety.
The buyers quoted
Rs.650 a quintal and purchased all the 200 bags. Some traders are
having orders from North India for the hybrid varieties and so they
procured all the stock” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode
Turmeric Merchants Association.
At the Erode Turmeric
Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric fetched
Rs.4,199-6,236 a quintal; the root variety Rs.4,100-5,881.
Salem Hybrid: The finger
turmeric was sold at Rs.5,781-7,300; the root variety Rs.5,499-6,241.
Of the 545 bags offered, 309 were sold.
At the Regulated Market
Committee, the finger turmeric went for Rs.5,413-6,516; the root
variety Rs.5,318-6,066. Of the 743 bags put up for sale, 503 were
traded.
At the Erode Cooperative
Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at Rs.5,699-6,429 and
the root variety Rs.5,563-6,099. Of the 338 bags arrived, 296 were
sold.
At the Gobichettipalayam
Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric ruled
at Rs.5,101-6,342 and the root variety Rs.4,880-5,817 a quintal. All
the 150 bags found takers.
